Despite the great variety of organic molecules that arise from the different ways carbon bonds with different atoms, they can be grouped into families with similar characteristics.

A functional group is called an atom or group of atoms within a molecule, responsible for the characteristic properties of said molecules, such as reactivity or some physical properties. The same functional groups will give similar chemical reactions.

The properties of carbon compounds depend on the arrangement of their chains and the types of atoms to which they are attached, that is, on their structure.

A functional group is an atom or an arrangement of atoms that always react in a certain way; Furthermore, it is the part of the molecule responsible for its chemical behavior, since it gives it characteristic properties. Many organic compounds contain more than one functional group.
